Brown Trout

If you're chasing trophy brown trout in Missouri, don't overlook Pineville. The clear, cold waters of the Elk River and its tributaries offer ideal habitat. Spring and fall are prime times; the browns are active as water temperatures moderate. Early morning or late evening are often best, especially during the warmer months. Access is relatively easy with several public access points along the Elk River, but be prepared for some wading as the river can be shallow in places. Look for deeper pools, undercut banks, and areas with woody structure – these are brown trout magnets. The browns in this area are known for their beautiful coloration and can be surprisingly aggressive, so don't be afraid to experiment with larger streamers or crankbaits. Respect private property and pack out everything you pack in to help maintain this fantastic fishery.
