Brown Trout

While not typically known for trout, the Village of Four Seasons offers proximity to some unique brown trout opportunities in Missouri. While Lake of the Ozarks itself isn't ideal, the Niangua River, a short drive away, is stocked with brown trout and offers a more classic trout stream environment. Spring and fall are the best times to target these fish, as water temperatures are cooler and the trout are more active. Look for deeper pools and runs, and try using small spinners, spoons, or nymphs. Access to the Niangua can be found at various points along Highway 5, but be aware that some areas may require wading. Brown trout in this area aren't generally huge, but they can provide a fun challenge in a beautiful setting. Check the Missouri Department of Conservation website for stocking schedules.
