Brown Trout

While Wood Village itself isn't a brown trout mecca, you can find decent brown trout fishing within a reasonable drive. Focus on the Sandy River, known for its salmon and steelhead runs, but also holding a population of brown trout. Fall and early spring are generally the best times, coinciding with cooler water temperatures and lower river flows. Browns often seek refuge in deeper pools and runs, especially during warmer periods. Access to the Sandy River is readily available via Oxbow Regional Park and various other access points along Highway 26. A practical tip is to focus on areas with good cover, such as fallen logs and undercut banks. Try casting spinners, small spoons, or drifting nymphs. The browns in the Sandy River can be wary, so use a light line and make stealthy presentations. The river can be subject to sudden changes in flow, so check conditions before you go.
