Brown Trout

While Mill Village itself might not be a brown trout mecca, it serves as a great basecamp for exploring the surrounding trout streams of northwestern Pennsylvania. Several smaller creeks and tributaries in the area are stocked with brown trout, providing ample opportunities for anglers. Consider exploring some of the unnamed tributaries of French Creek; these often hold planted browns and the occasional holdover. Spring and early summer, right after stocking, are the most productive times. However, with some knowledge and finesse, you can find browns throughout the season. One key to success is to fish early in the morning or late in the evening when the water is cooler and the fish are more active. Be mindful of private property and always obtain permission before fishing on private land. Local tip: try using small spinners or live bait in the deeper pools and runs. The stocked browns can be somewhat naive, but they still appreciate a well-presented offering.
