The section below Gray Reef Dam is a tailwater fishery known for its consistent flows and cold water, creating ideal conditions for brown trout growth. Spring and fall are prime times to fish, with excellent dry fly fishing opportunities during mayfly and caddis hatches. Nymphing is also effective year-round. Access to the river is relatively easy, with several public access points and boat ramps available. A local tip: the North Platte can experience heavy fishing pressure, so be prepared to experiment with different fly patterns and techniques to find what the fish are keying on. Also, be aware of the regulations regarding catch-and-release areas and gear restrictions.
