If you're looking for a toothy challenge, Northern Pike in Wyoming's Midwest can deliver. While not as abundant as in some northern states, Glendo Reservoir offers a decent opportunity to tangle with these predators. Key times to target pike are early spring, right after ice-out, and again in the fall as water temperatures cool. Pike are ambush predators, so focus your efforts around weedy areas, submerged timber, and rocky points. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are all effective lures. A local tip: Pike in Glendo Reservoir can be found in relatively shallow water, especially during the spawning season. Slow-rolling a spinnerbait through the weeds can be deadly. Also, be sure to use a wire leader to prevent bite-offs, as pike have razor-sharp teeth. While not trophy-sized on average, Wyoming pike can still provide an exciting fight and a memorable fishing experience.
