Carp

Batesville, Mississippi might not be the first place that comes to mind for carp fishing, but the overlooked waters around here hold some surprisingly large common carp. The Sardis Lake Spillway and the smaller creeks and oxbows connecting to the lake are prime locations. Look for muddy or silty bottoms with submerged vegetation, as carp love to forage in these areas. Spring and early summer, when the water warms up and the carp are spawning, are particularly productive. Pre-baiting your chosen spot for a few days with corn or boilies can significantly increase your chances. A local tip: access to the spillway area is relatively easy, but be prepared for strong currents, especially after heavy rains. Also, be mindful of the regulations regarding bait restrictions on Sardis Lake itself if you venture into the main lake.
