Carp

Carp fishing near Purvis, Mississippi, may not be the first thing that comes to mind, but the area offers some surprisingly good opportunities for targeting these overlooked fish. The slow-moving sections of the Bouie River and its tributaries hold decent populations of Common Carp. Spring and early summer are excellent times to fish, as the carp become more active and move into shallower areas to spawn. Corn, boilies, and dough baits are all effective choices. A good starting point is along the banks of the Bouie River near bridge crossings, where carp often congregate. Another tip: pre-baiting your fishing spot for a few days can significantly increase your chances of success. Keep in mind that carp can be quite wary, so using a stealthy approach and a long, light leader is often necessary. The carp in this region can reach impressive sizes, with some specimens exceeding 20 pounds.
