Hybrid Striped Bass

While not as widely known, Hybrid Striped Bass fishing can be found in some areas near Purvis. While strictly landlocked populations are rare in the immediate vicinity, certain reservoirs and larger lakes within an hour's drive (north or west towards the Pearl River drainage) may be stocked with them. Spring and fall are the peak seasons to target hybrids, as they tend to school up and actively feed on shad. Live shad is an excellent bait choice, but you can also find success with crankbaits, swimbaits, and jigs. If you're willing to travel a bit, check local fishing reports for stocking information and specific locations. Focus your efforts around points, humps, and areas with current. Remember, hybrid stripers are known for their powerful runs, so be sure to use appropriate tackle. The average size ranges from 2 to 5 pounds, but larger fish are certainly possible.
