Hybrid Striped Bass

Hybrid striped bass, or 'hybrids' as they're often called, aren't as common in the immediate Flora area, but they can be found in some of the larger reservoirs and rivers within a reasonable drive. Targeting them requires a bit more effort, but the reward of a hard-fighting fish is well worth it. The Pearl River, south and east of Flora, is one potential option. Spring and fall are typically the best times, when water temperatures are moderate and the fish are actively feeding. Look for areas with current, such as near bridges or creek mouths. Trolling crankbaits or casting swimbaits can be productive. Pay attention to Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks stocking reports to see if any local lakes have been recently stocked with hybrids, as this can significantly improve your chances. Also, be sure to check specific regulations for the river or reservoir you plan to fish, as size and creel limits may vary.
