Spotted Bass

Flora, Mississippi, isn't necessarily known as a trophy spotted bass destination, but these scrappy fighters are definitely present and can provide some fun fishing. Focus your efforts on the creeks and rivers in the area, like the Big Black River. Spotted bass tend to relate to structure, so look for submerged timber, rocky banks, and creek channels. They are ambush predators, so cast your bait near these features. Smaller crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and Texas-rigged worms are all effective. Spring and fall are generally the best times to target them, as they become more active with the cooler water temperatures. Keep an eye out for water level fluctuations in the Big Black River, as this can impact fishing success. A good access point to the Big Black is the Highway 22 bridge, but be mindful of parking regulations. Remember to check the Mississippi fishing regulations for size and creel limits.
