Catfish

Benton, Kentucky, and the surrounding lakes are excellent for targeting Catfish. Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley provide ample opportunities for both channel and blue catfish. Summer nights are particularly productive, with catfish actively feeding. Target areas with current, such as the main lake channels and areas below dams. Popular baits include cut bait, nightcrawlers, and commercially prepared stink baits. A local tip: many anglers anchor near submerged timber or along channel edges and use a three-way rig to present their bait. Also, consider using a fish finder to locate schools of baitfish, as catfish are often nearby. The catfish in these lakes can reach impressive sizes, so be sure to use heavy tackle.
