Summer nights are particularly productive, as catfish become more active under the cover of darkness. Look for deeper holes, areas with current breaks, and near structures like bridges or fallen trees. A simple slip sinker rig with cut bait, chicken liver, or nightcrawlers is the go-to method. Access to the river can be found at various points along its banks, though some areas are more accessible than others. Be aware of the river's water quality, which can fluctuate. A local tip: try fishing near the outflow of any tributaries into the Passaic, as these areas often concentrate baitfish and, consequently, catfish. Also, be prepared for mosquitoes, especially during the evening hours.
