Largemouth Bass

Lodi, NJ might not be the first place that comes to mind for trophy largemouth, but the Passaic River and its connected waterways offer surprisingly good bass fishing. While the river itself can be challenging due to currents and occasional pollution, the backwaters, creeks, and ponds that feed into it often hold decent populations of largemouth. Spring and fall are the prime times, as bass are more active during these periods. Look for areas with submerged vegetation, fallen trees, and docks – these provide excellent cover. A local tip: focus on areas where smaller creeks enter the Passaic, as these often provide warmer water and attract baitfish. Be mindful of water quality, especially after heavy rains, and check local advisories. Small plastic worms and spinnerbaits are effective choices in these waters. Access can be tricky; look for public parks or street parking near the river and its tributaries, but always respect private property.
