Channel Catfish

If you're heading to Ringwood, Oklahoma, with channel catfish on your mind, you're in for a treat. This part of the state offers several smaller lakes and ponds, along with stretches of the Salt Fork Arkansas River, that hold healthy populations of channel cats. Spring and early summer, after the spawn, are prime times, as the cats are actively feeding to regain condition. Late summer evenings can also be productive. A great tip is to focus on areas with submerged timber or creek channels entering the main body of water – these are catfish magnets. Bank fishing is readily available at many of the smaller lakes, and access to the Salt Fork can be found at bridge crossings or designated access points. Remember, Oklahoma requires a fishing license, and checking local regulations regarding size and creel limits is always a good idea before you cast a line.
