Channel Catfish

If you're looking to tangle with some whiskered giants, the waters around Silo, Oklahoma, and Lake Texoma offer excellent channel catfish opportunities. This lake is teeming with catfish, providing consistent action throughout the year. While catfish can be caught year-round, the warmer months, especially late spring and summer, are particularly productive. Focus on areas with submerged structure, such as timber or rock piles, and near creek channels. Stinkbaits, cut bait, and nightcrawlers are all effective baits. A local tip is to try fishing near the dam or in the river channels where the Red and Washita Rivers enter the lake. These areas tend to concentrate catfish. Night fishing can be especially rewarding during the hot summer months. Several boat ramps provide access to Lake Texoma, but the ones on the western side of the lake near the Washita River arm are well-suited for catfish anglers. Be sure to have a good net or gaff to land those bigger cats.
