Channel Catfish

Channel catfish are a readily available target in the Victoria, Texas area. The Guadalupe River and its tributaries are prime locations, offering plenty of natural habitat for these whiskered fish. Look for deeper holes, submerged timber, and areas near creek mouths. Spring and summer are traditionally the best times to fish for catfish, especially after a rain event when they become more active. A simple slip-sinker rig baited with stinkbait, cut bait (shad or perch), or nightcrawlers is highly effective. For bank fishing, explore the Guadalupe River Park or other public access points along the river. A practical tip: catfish in this area can be sensitive to water clarity, so focus on areas with slightly stained or murky water. Be prepared for some feisty fights, as the Guadalupe River catfish are known for their strong pulls.
