Crappie

Crappie fishing around Andalusia, Alabama, centers on Gantt Lake and Point A Lake, both reservoirs on the Conecuh River. These lakes offer good crappie habitat, with plenty of submerged timber and brush piles where crappie congregate. Spring is the best time to target crappie, as they move into shallow water to spawn. Look for them in coves and around docks and piers. Minnows and jigs are the go-to baits. A local tip: try spider-rigging multiple rods with minnows at different depths to find where the crappie are holding. Also, check water temperatures; crappie tend to become more active as the water warms up. Public access is available at several boat ramps around both lakes. The crappie in these lakes are typically a mix of black and white crappie, with some reaching upwards of 2 pounds.
