Spring is prime time, when the crappie move into the shallows to spawn. Look for them around submerged timber, docks, and grass beds in coves and creeks. As the water warms, they'll retreat to deeper water near structure. Minnows and jigs are your best bet. A local tip: Pay attention to water clarity; stained water often holds more fish. The Browns Creek area and the riprap along the causeway are popular access points. Remember that crappie here can be finicky, so experiment with different jig colors and retrieves until you find what they want. Don't be afraid to move around until you locate a productive school.
