Crappie

Crappie enthusiasts visiting Denning, Arkansas, will find promising opportunities on the Illinois Bayou. While not as well-known as some of the larger crappie lakes in the state, the Bayou holds a healthy population of both black and white crappie. Spring is the peak season, coinciding with the pre-spawn and spawn. Target shallow, brushy areas and submerged timber with jigs or minnows suspended under a bobber. Focus on the creek mouths and backwater sloughs that connect to the main river channel. Fall is another good time to fish for crappie as they move back into the shallows to feed before winter.
