If you're after Crappie in Lake Isabella, focus your efforts around submerged structure and vegetation. These fish school up tightly, so finding one usually means finding many. Spring is the peak season when they move shallow to spawn. Use small jigs or live minnows under a bobber, fishing around submerged trees, brush piles, and docks. The area near the Kern River inlet can be particularly productive. Remember to check the water clarity, as crappie prefer slightly stained water. A local tip is to use a crappie nibble on your jig for added attraction. Also, be mindful of the wind, as it can quickly change on the lake and make boat control difficult. Launching from the Paradise Cove marina provides good access to crappie holding areas.
