Crappie fishing near Whittier centers around Legg Lake and the interconnected lakes within the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area. These lakes offer decent crappie populations, though they can be somewhat pressured. Spring is prime time, as the crappie move into shallower water to spawn. Small jigs, especially tube jigs in white, chartreuse, or crappie-specific colors, are highly effective. Minnows are also a reliable choice, fished under a bobber near submerged structure or weed beds. Access is easy, with ample parking and shoreline access at Legg Lake. A small boat or kayak can expand your options, allowing you to reach less-fished areas. The crappie here aren't generally trophy-sized, but you can find good numbers of pan-sized fish. Be mindful of local regulations regarding size and bag limits, as they can change.
