Crappie

Crappie fishing in Old Mill Creek centers around the numerous small lakes and ponds scattered throughout the area. These waters, often featuring submerged timber and vegetation, provide excellent habitat for crappie. Springtime, particularly during the pre-spawn (late April-early May), is the most productive period. Target shallow bays and weed edges with jigs or minnows suspended under a bobber. As the water warms, crappie tend to move deeper, so adjust your presentation accordingly. A local secret: many anglers have success fishing around docks and piers, especially those with brush piles placed nearby. Be mindful of private property and access restrictions. The crappie in these smaller waters generally run smaller, but you can still find some decent slabs if you put in the time and effort to locate them.
