Crappie

Crappie fishing on Kentucky Lake, near Murray, is a popular pursuit, and for good reason. This lake is known for its abundant crappie population and relatively clear water. Spring is the prime time, as crappie move into shallow bays and coves to spawn. Minnows and jigs are the go-to baits, fished under bobbers or by slowly trolling. During the summer months, crappie often suspend around submerged timber and brush piles in deeper water. Use your electronics to locate these structures and fish vertically with jigs or minnows. A helpful local tip is to check the water temperature, as crappie tend to be more active when the water is between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, be aware of the daily limits and size restrictions, which are strictly enforced.
