Crappie

Crappie fishing around Spring Park centers on Lake Minnetonka, a true panfish paradise. The lake's many bays and channels offer ideal habitat for crappies, with abundant weed beds, docks, and submerged structure where they congregate. Early spring, just after ice-out, is a prime time as the crappies move into shallow bays to spawn. Look for them around docks and reeds. Fall is another excellent period, as they school up in deeper water near structure. A simple jig and bobber rig is highly effective, tipped with a minnow or crappie tube. Minnetonka crappies can be surprisingly selective, so experiment with different jig colors and sizes. The North Arm and Crystal Bay are known crappie hotspots. Be aware that Lake Minnetonka can get busy, especially on weekends. Consider fishing during the week or early in the morning to avoid the crowds. Also, check the current fishing regulations regarding size and bag limits before you head out.
