Springtime, when the crappie move shallow to spawn, is undoubtedly the best time to target them. Look for them around submerged brush, docks, and standing timber. Small jigs and minnows are the go-to baits. A practical tip: use a long pole to reach crappie holding in tight cover. Also, pay attention to water temperature; crappie typically spawn when the water reaches around 60-65 degrees. The crappie in this region tend to run on the smaller side, but what they lack in size, they make up for in numbers. A limit of tasty crappie is definitely achievable.
