While not a renowned crappie destination, the smaller, quieter waters offer a chance to connect with these panfish, especially during the spring and fall. The ideal time to target crappie is during the pre-spawn in early spring, when they move into shallower waters to feed, or again in the fall as the water cools. Small jigs tipped with minnows or tubes are your best bet. Focus on areas with submerged structure like fallen trees, docks, or weed beds – crappie love to congregate around cover. A local tip: check out the pond at Van Saun County Park. Although technically in Paramus, it's a short drive and offers decent bank access. Be aware that some areas may have restricted access or require a Bergen County Parks permit, so always check local regulations before you cast a line.
