If you're chasing crappie in the Finger Lakes region, don't overlook Clifton Springs. This area offers excellent crappie fishing in the local creeks and ponds connected to the larger Finger Lakes watershed. Spring is prime time, as the crappie move into the shallows to spawn. Focus on areas with submerged timber, brush piles, and lily pads – they provide cover and attract these tasty panfish. A small jig tipped with a minnow or waxworm is tough to beat. For bank access, try the public areas along the Canandaigua Outlet; it holds crappie and offers easy access. Be mindful of private property; stick to designated fishing areas. The crappie in this region tend to be good-sized, often exceeding 12 inches, making for a rewarding day on the water. Later in the year, they move into deeper water near structure. Slow trolling with crankbaits can be effective during the summer months.
