You won't find huge crappie populations here, but targeting them in the calmer, brackish backwaters connected to Hewlett Bay can be rewarding. Focus your efforts on areas with submerged structure, like docks, fallen trees, and bridge pilings. Spring and fall are prime times, with the pre-spawn period in April often producing the most active bite. Small jigs and minnows are your best bet. A key local tip is to fish during the incoming tide, as this often brings in clearer water and more active fish. Access is mainly by boat, launching from one of the local marinas, but kayak fishing can also be effective in these sheltered areas.
