If you're looking for some slab-sided crappie action in the Southern Tier of New York, Endicott offers some surprisingly good opportunities. The Susquehanna River, which flows through Endicott, holds decent populations, particularly in the slower-moving sections and backwaters. Furthermore, several smaller ponds and reservoirs in the surrounding area, like those found in some of the local parks, are often stocked and can be hotspots, especially in the spring. The best time to target crappie here is during the pre-spawn (late April/early May) when they move into shallow water to prepare for spawning. Look for them near submerged structure like fallen trees, docks, and weed beds. A simple jig tipped with a minnow or a small tube bait under a bobber is deadly. Access to the Susquehanna is available at various points along the riverfront park. Be aware that water levels can fluctuate, especially after heavy rains, impacting fishing conditions. Check local reports before heading out. The crappie in this region tend to be good-sized, with some exceeding 12 inches.
