While the Maumee is famous for its spring walleye run, savvy anglers know it holds a good population of crappie year-round. Focus your efforts in the slower, deeper pools and backwaters, especially areas with submerged structure like fallen trees or brush piles. Spring is prime time, as crappie move into the shallows to spawn. However, don't overlook the fall when they fatten up before winter. A local tip: try fishing near the old canal locks; they often hold crappie. Minnows and small jigs are your best bet.
