This large reservoir is a crappie haven, offering both black and white crappie. Spring is undoubtedly the best time to target these panfish, as they move into shallow coves and brush piles to spawn. Minnows and jigs are the go-to baits, and a slow, deliberate presentation is key. Focus your efforts around submerged timber, bridge pilings, and brush piles in the backs of creeks. During the summer months, crappie tend to move deeper, so try fishing around submerged structure in 15-25 feet of water. For boat access, numerous public ramps are available around the lake, including those at Dreher Island State Park. A local tip: many anglers have success spider-rigging multiple rods with different jig colors to determine what the crappie are biting on that day.
