Flathead Catfish

Targeting flatheads requires patience and heavier gear, as these fish are ambush predators that prefer live bait. Bluegill or small sunfish are effective choices. Focus your efforts around log jams, deep bends in the river, and areas with significant structure – these are classic flathead haunts. Late spring through early fall is generally considered the best time to target them, with the warmer water temperatures increasing their activity.
