Channel Catfish

If you're chasing channel cats in central Oklahoma, Lexington offers some excellent opportunities. The South Canadian River is the main draw here, providing miles of fishable water. Look for cats congregating in deeper holes, especially around submerged timber and rock structures. Spring and early summer, after the spawn, are prime times, as the cats are actively feeding. Another great time to target them is during periods of heavy rain when the river rises, bringing in fresh food and stirring up the catfish. For bank access, try the Highway 77 bridge area; it's a popular spot with decent access to the river. A local tip: using cut bait from shad or sunfish is a reliable method for attracting those channel cats. The South Canadian River can be muddy, so using scent attractants or punch baits can also give you an edge. Be prepared for varying water levels, especially after rainfall.
