Flathead Catfish

Ferris, Texas, and the surrounding area hold some impressive Flathead Catfish. While Ferris itself doesn't have a major river running through it, the nearby Trinity River is a prime location. Look for deeper holes and areas with submerged timber, as flatheads love to ambush prey from these spots. Lake Waxahachie, a short drive from Ferris, also holds a healthy population of flatheads. Live bait is key for targeting these brutes – large sunfish or bullheads are hard to beat. Fishing at night is particularly productive, as flatheads are nocturnal predators. A sturdy rod and reel are essential, as these fish can grow to considerable sizes. For bank access on the Trinity, look for public access points near bridge crossings.
