Flathead Catfish

If you're after some whiskered giants, Lindale provides access to waters holding flathead catfish. Lake Tyler and Lake Tyler East, easily accessible from Lindale, are your best bets. Flatheads are ambush predators, so focus on areas with plenty of cover, such as submerged timber, creek channels, and deep holes. Live bait is key for targeting these fish. Sunfish, perch, or even small bullheads are all excellent choices. The warmer months, from late spring through summer, are the most productive times to target flatheads. Fishing at night is often the most effective strategy, as they become more active under the cover of darkness. A local tip: be patient. Flathead fishing requires persistence, but the reward of landing a trophy-sized fish is well worth the wait. Use heavy tackle, as these fish can grow to impressive sizes.
