Targeting flathead catfish near Pantego? Joe Pool Lake and Lake Arlington are your best bets. These reservoirs offer the deep structure and abundant baitfish that flatheads love. The warmer months, from late spring through early fall, are prime time. Flatheads are ambush predators, so focus on areas with submerged timber, rocky ledges, or deep holes near creek channels. Live bait is essential – think sunfish or bullheads. Many anglers have success fishing at night, especially during the summer heat. Bank fishing opportunities are available at some of the parks around the lakes, but a boat will significantly expand your options. Be prepared for a fight; flatheads are powerful fish.
