Flounder

Flounder fishing in Bay Saint Louis can be quite rewarding, particularly if you enjoy targeting these flatfish in relatively shallow, brackish waters. The area's muddy bottoms and abundance of baitfish create ideal conditions for flounder to thrive. Spring and fall are the best times to target them as they migrate in and out of the bay. Focus your efforts on areas with sandy or muddy bottoms near grass beds or channel edges. Live shrimp or mud minnows are excellent bait choices, fished on a Carolina rig or a jig head. Slow, deliberate retrieves are key to success. Many anglers wade fish for flounder along the edges of the bay or use small boats to access the backwaters of the Jourdan River. Be aware of the tides, as flounder often move with the current to ambush prey. A good tip is to use polarized sunglasses to spot flounder lying on the bottom.
