The fall months, particularly October and November, are prime time for flounder as they migrate offshore to spawn. Live bait like mud minnows or shrimp fished on a Carolina rig is a reliable method, but artificial lures like soft plastics bounced along the bottom can also be effective. A local tip: try fishing the edges of the shipping channel; flounder often congregate there to feed on baitfish attracted to the deeper water. Also, be aware of the tide; flounder often move with the tide, so pay attention to the current and adjust your fishing location accordingly. Gigging at night is another popular method, especially in the shallow flats and bayous surrounding the bay. Flounder in this area are known for their camouflage, so be patient and observant.
