Flounder

Sullivan's Island and its surrounding waters are a great place to target Flounder, particularly the Southern Flounder. These flatfish are ambush predators, so focus on areas with structure and current breaks. The best time to target them is during the warmer months, from late spring through early fall, when they are most active. Live bait, such as mud minnows or small finger mullet, fished on a Carolina rig is a highly effective method. Slowly drag your bait along the bottom, paying close attention to any subtle taps. Artificial lures like soft plastic grubs or swimbaits can also be productive. Try fishing around docks, bridges, and oyster beds, as these areas provide cover and attract baitfish. Access to the creeks and flats around Sullivan's Island is readily available via public boat ramps, but be mindful of the strong tidal currents and shallow water. The backside of the island, along the Intracoastal Waterway, can be particularly productive.
