Golden Tilefish

Venture into the depths off Destin's coast for a chance at landing a Golden Tilefish, a deep-water delicacy and a prized catch. Destin's proximity to the De Soto Canyon makes it a strategic launching point for deep-sea fishing expeditions targeting these bottom dwellers. The prime season is generally year-round, but calmer seas in the spring and fall can make for more comfortable trips. Golden Tilefish reside in very deep waters, typically 600 to 1000 feet or more, so specialized equipment is essential. Electric reels spooled with braided line are a must, along with heavy weights to get your bait down to the bottom. Focus on areas with rocky structure or drop-offs on the canyon walls. Squid, cut bait, and live bait are all effective. Local Tip: Many experienced charter captains in Destin specialize in deep-drop fishing and have the necessary knowledge and equipment to put you on the fish. Be prepared for long days and potentially rough seas, but the reward of landing a beautiful Golden Tilefish is well worth the effort.
