Guadalupe Bass

Though not the first species that comes to mind when you think of Charlotte fishing, Guadalupe Bass can be found in certain areas. These fish, while not native, have established populations in some of the clearer, cooler streams and rivers outside the immediate city. Focus on waterways like the Catawba River upstream of Lake Norman, and some of its tributaries flowing from the foothills. Look for rocky areas, riffles, and pools where the water is well-oxygenated. Spring and fall are ideal times to target them, as water temperatures are moderate and the fish are actively feeding. Use light spinning tackle with small crankbaits, spinners, or even fly fishing gear. A key tip: access to these streams can sometimes be limited, so research public access points and consider using a kayak or canoe to reach less pressured areas.
