Gulf Flounder
Port Aransas is a superb destination for Gulf Flounder anglers, offering a mix of bay and surf fishing opportunities. The extensive grass flats in Aransas Bay and Corpus Christi Bay provide excellent habitat, as do the jetties and channels leading to the Gulf. While flounder can be caught year-round, the fall months (September-November) are particularly productive as flounder migrate out of the bays and towards the Gulf. A local tip is to focus on the edges of grass flats, especially where they meet deeper channels, using soft plastics or live bait like mud minnows or finger mullet. Wade fishing the flats at low tide can be very effective. Another excellent location is the jetties that line the entrance to the Aransas Pass, but be cautious of strong currents and boat traffic. Remember to check the local tide charts and target periods of moving water for the best results.
