Hybrid Striped Bass

While Balch Springs isn't necessarily known as a Hybrid Striped Bass mecca, there are opportunities to target these hard-fighting fish in nearby larger reservoirs. Focus on the larger bodies of water to the east and south. Spring and fall are the prime times, as the Hybrids become more active with the changing water temperatures. Look for schooling activity, especially early and late in the day, and be prepared to cast long distances with crankbaits, swimbaits, or topwater lures. A key to success is finding the baitfish – the Hybrids will follow their food source. Check local fishing reports for recent stocking information, as the population is often supplemented. Be mindful of size and bag limits, as they can differ from other striped bass species. A boat is highly recommended for effectively targeting Hybrids, allowing you to cover more water and locate the schools.
