Hybrid Striped Bass

Lake Bonham, situated near Ector, offers a chance to tangle with some hard-fighting hybrid striped bass. These fish, a cross between striped bass and white bass, are known for their aggressive strikes and impressive size. While not as abundant as largemouth or white bass, Lake Bonham holds a decent population of hybrids. Spring and fall are generally the best times to target them, as they tend to school up and feed actively. Look for them around main lake points, humps, and areas with deep water access. Trolling crankbaits or casting swimbaits and jigs can be effective techniques. Live shad is also a popular bait. Local tip: Watch your electronics for schools of baitfish; the hybrids are often nearby. Also, be prepared for a long fight; these fish can put up a serious battle. The lake has boat ramps for access, check lake levels before heading out.
