Hybrid Striped Bass

While Indian Lake, Texas, might not be the first place that comes to mind for hybrid striped bass, it can offer some surprisingly good fishing at times. The key is targeting the cooler months, particularly late fall through early spring, when the hybrids are more active in the slightly cooler water. They aren't stocked here, so any fish you find will be from natural reproduction or escapees from nearby stockings. Focus your efforts around any deeper channels or areas near the dam (if present). Try trolling crankbaits or casting swimbaits. Live shad, if available, is always a top choice. Because it's a smaller lake, finding the fish can be a challenge, but once you locate a school, the action can be fast and furious. Keep an eye on your electronics to locate baitfish, as the hybrids will likely be nearby. Remember to practice catch and release to help maintain the population.
