Hybrid Striped Bass, or 'Hybrids,' can offer exciting fishing near Melissa, Texas, primarily in Lavon Lake. These hard-fighting fish are stocked in Lavon, and provide a thrilling alternative to largemouth bass. The best time to target Hybrids is during the spring and fall when water temperatures are moderate. Look for them schooling near the dam and main lake points, especially where there's current. A local tip is to use live shad or slabs vertically jigged near the bottom. Lavon Lake has several good boat ramps, but be aware of fluctuating water levels, especially during the summer. The Hybrid population is decent, with fish typically ranging from 3-7 pounds, although larger specimens are caught regularly.
