This reservoir is known for its fluctuating water levels, which can concentrate baitfish and, in turn, the hybrids. The best time to target them is during the spring and fall months when water temperatures are moderate. Focus on areas near the dam, submerged humps, and points where the old river channel runs. Early morning and late afternoon are prime times. For bank access, try the various parks and recreation areas around Lake Whitney, but a boat is highly recommended to cover more ground. Launching from the Lake Whitney State Park ramp is a good option. A local tip: keep an eye on the TPWD creel limits, as they can vary. Also, shad imitation lures, particularly swimbaits and crankbaits, are consistently effective here. Remember to check the water level before you go, as access can be affected.
