Hybrid Striped Bass

Nixon, Texas, offers some exciting hybrid striped bass fishing opportunities in Calaveras Lake and Braunig Lake. These power plant lakes are known for their thriving hybrid striper populations, thanks to the consistently warm water. Spring and fall are prime times to target these hard-fighting fish. Look for them schooling near the discharge points or chasing baitfish on the surface. Trolling with crankbaits or casting topwater lures can be very effective when they're actively feeding on the surface. For access, both lakes have public boat ramps and shoreline access. A key tip for these lakes is to monitor the water temperature; hybrids are often more active when the water is in the mid-60s to low 70s.
