Hybrid Striped Bass

Hybrid striped bass, a cross between striped bass and white bass, offer fast-paced action in some of the freshwater impoundments and river systems connected to the Houston Ship Channel near Pasadena. While not as common as in some other Texas lakes, they can be found. The key is to target areas with good current and baitfish concentrations. Spring and fall are ideal, as hybrids school up and feed aggressively. Look for them near dam tailraces or where creeks enter the main body of water. Trolling with crankbaits or casting swimbaits can be highly effective. Local tip: Check local fishing reports for recent stocking information, as this can influence where hybrids are concentrated. Also, be prepared for a strong fight; these fish are known for their powerful runs.
